About Khelo India University Games

The Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is a national multi-sport event under the Khelo India initiative of the Government of India. The first edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) was held at Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, in 2020, followed by Karnataka in 2021-2022, Uttar Pradesh in 2023, jointly with the north Indian states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura in 2024. Aim to strengthen India’s sports foundation by identifying and nurturing talent from universities. The programme focuses on transforming India into a sporting nation by linking academics with athletics.

The 2025 edition of the Khelo India University Games will be hosted in Rajasthan for the first time. The event will take place mainly in Jaipur, led by Poornima University and Rajasthan University.

 

KIUG disciplines and New addition

The 2025 KIUG will feature 23 medal sports, including archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, fencing, football, hockey, judo, kabaddi, mallakhamb, rugby, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, yogasana, cycling, beach volleyball, and canoeing and kayaking. Role of Government and Organisers

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sports Authority of India (SAI), and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) are jointly organising the games. The Rajasthan government is providing infrastructure and logistics support.

 

The event also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sports for All” and “Fit India Movement,” encouraging youth participation and a healthy lifestyle.
